The International Piano Competition of Chopin-Gesellschaft Hannover takes place every two years and has been established to encourage and offer performance opportunities for young talented pianists. You are warmly invited to apply. The pianists preselected by a jury of experts are asked to come to Hanover to the finals which takes place on 22nd February 2025.
Terms of participation
Pianists of all nationalities who were born between 1997 through 2007 can take part. The organizer reserves the right to make exceptions to this rule in justified cases.
Competition process:
- The competition is in two steps: a preselection based on video recordings, and the public final concert which takes place on 22nd February 2025 at 3 p.m. in the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover (HMTMH). The competition is open to the public.
- The order in which the participants appear will be decided by drawing lots. The organizer reserves the right to make exceptions to this in justified cases.
- The candidate can determine the order of the works in each selection test themselves. For the finals the program should include at least one piece of music by Chopin. Information about the pre-selection can be found below.
- All works are to be performed from memory. The works performed for the video recordings may be performed again at the final concert.
- The award ceremony will take place right after the finals in HMTMH.
Application requirements are:
- A photo and a correctly completed application form, which you can download here:
- A copy of your passport or ID card
- A letter of recommendation from your music professor
- A 30 to 45 minutes video recording on DVD, mp4-file or YouTube
- Approximately half of the program must consist of works by Chopin, including at least one Etude and one Mazurka by Chopin, and one Etude by another composer and one or two other works of your own choice.
- Payment of the application fee: 70,– Euro. Please transfer the application fee with the participant‘s name and note “Competition 2025” to one of the listed below Bank accounts or the PayPal account.

Our jury will select the finalists for the competition based on the video recordings. The result will be communicated to all candidates by e-mail by 15th January, 2025. The five finalists will be invited to an audition on 22nd February 2025 at 3 p.m. in the Richard-Jakobi-Saal of the HMTMH
- 1 st prize: € 9.000,–
- 2nd prize: € 7.000,–
- 3rd prize: € 5.000,–
- Audiences award: € 1.000,–
Finalists traveling from outside will receive a travel allowance of € 250,–
